I chose this topic because I wanted to learn more about Covid19 and the reasons why certain people don't wear masks. I also wanted to learn more about the republicans and democrats to see what their reason for wearing and not wearing masks. The thinking skill for this project was reasoning. I made a total of three projects, for English I made a poem, for Civics I made a keynote, and for Art I interviewed people and made a video on I-movie.
English Poem:
Poem shows: reason to wear a mask Some people have contracted Covid19 and some people have not. People have mistaken the blessing of not getting the virus and instead believe it to not be real.
Mixed messages by our government have caused confusion. Should we wear a mask or is it not necessary? Does it make me a Democrat? Does it go against my freedom? Is it only a political statement?
The love I have for my family encourages me to wear a mask. We lost a family member to the virus and now my grandparents are fighting it. I wear a mask to stop the spread of the virus. I wear a mask to protect my loved ones. I know Covid19 is real!
People decide not to wear masks due to freedom and free of will. Wearing a mask isn't just about you, but it's about the people around you. People who don't wear masks show their true colors. They show that they have no regard for anyone else's health and they only care about their “freedom” Wear a mask! Diving deeper into the poem:
~ “Does it make me a Democrat?”
I wrote this line in the poem to show how wearing a mask became political and how democrats are seen as the people who wear masks while republicans complain, but that isn't always the case.
~ “ Mixed messages by our government have caused confusion. Should we wear a mask or is it not necessary?”
I wrote this line in the poem to show the confusion the government gives us when they tell us to wear a mask but our leader at the time (Trump) degraded and mocked masks.
~ “Is it only a political statement?”
I wrote this line in the poem to show how masks are not just a face covering to protect from covid, they have become a sign to show if we are a democrat or republican because a lot of republicans decide to not wear masks.
~ “I know Covid19 is real!”
I wrote this line in the poem because my family has faced a lot of scares with Covid. These scares include, my 76 year older grandfather getting it, my abuela and abuelo getting it and being hospitalized, my aunt getting it and my step dad’s uncle passing away due to it. All of them could have died and i'm grateful that almost all of them are still with us today, but this shows how Covid19 has been real in my life.
~ “Wearing a mask isn't just about you, but it's about the people around you.”
I wrote this line in the poem to show how some people view wearing masks as taking away their freedom and say that they don't have to wear a mask because they show no symptoms. However, people can be asymptomatic and still have Covid, so they are still putting others in danger.
~ “People who don't wear masks show their true colors.”
I wrote this line in the poem to show how people who don’t wear masks disregard others and only care about how it affects their freedom and rights. This shows how they think about others, therefore “showing their true colors.”

How I used Reasoning in my projects:
For English I used reasoning in my project by writing a poem and giving the reasoning for why I wrote each line. I did this by having a description of each line that stood out and explaining exactly why I wrote that line. Next, for Art I created a video of people being interviewed and asked questions about their point of view on wearing masks. I used reasoning by letting them state their reasoning for why they wear masks and the importance of then. Lastly, for Civics I made a keynote about how mask wearing became political. I used reasoning by showing the reasons why republicans choose not to wear masks and why trump didn't push the needs for them.
